Toyota | Dew Tour
The DEW Tour is a nationwide action sports competition featuring the world’s best extreme athletes. Toyota sponsored three DEW Tour athletes, Jamie Bestwick, Greg Lutzka,and Bob Burnquist. Working as an art director/associate creative director I was a part of the team tasked to create a print ad and a series of posters for fans who attended the tour. Playing into the rivalry between skaters and BMXers we created the Clash of the Colossal campaign which was a homage to Japanese Monster movie posters from the 1960’s and 70’s.
To bring this idea to life, we met with each of the athletes to strategize the theme of their poster. We made sure each illustration matched the personality and riding style of the individual athletes. Abe Cortes created the typography, and we recruited illustrator Tavis Coburn to bring these ideas to life. To further communicate the historic theme of the posters we printed on weathered card stock, and featured a gold-foil embossed stamp.
